STREET PHOTOGRAPHY is all about people. It may depict their environments, social causes, life styles, and much more. It can be sub-classified as social documentary, environmental portraits, and close portraits. As one of photography’s most difficult genres, street photography has unique challenges. The shooter doesn’t have control of the subject or lighting, both of which are important for most photography. At the same time, this can be advantageous for capturing moments of life on the street, real life issues, and candid portraits. Here I am going to share some tips for street portraits. These tips are mostly the guidelines which I follow for my street photography.

I had been taking lots of nature and macro shots, but it never gave me a satisfaction. One day, I was given a task of photography project and happened to stop at the nearby traditional market to take pictures, and I choose a place at Penayong. There were many people there with variety busyness of each. I casually asked permission to an old woman who sells vegetables to take his picture. Initially, he was scared and later curious. I took a closeup picture of him, and showed it to him on the digital screen. I still remember how happy he was.

It was one of my happiest moments, too. That was when I realized that my interest in photography is about people, and I knew I wanted to shoot people photography. I like having people in my pictures whether portraits or landscape or architecture, everything except macros. Without people in the frame, I feel there is no soul in my pictures.
The important aspect of street close portraits is interaction with the subject. I can observe the environment, people, and their activity, but I also interact with them, they will become comfortable while I was taking their pictures.
If it can't interact to them, I tried to take a picture of them from a distance or candid. Of course I do it were very carefully. There were one moment when I'm take pictures, incidentally the object knows that he is being targeted, if happens something like that, I try to smile and tried to apologize with courtesy.
